For a new Mum, the Baby Shower is just sssssoooo exciting! There’s the fun baby games, yummy scrumy food and of course the Presents!

So the biggest question before you go to one of these special occasions is what to take as a present. Well, I have been to quite a few baby showers in my time and whenever anyone gives a hand-made present an extra special fuss is made over it because everyone realises what thought and effort went into making it.

Also don’t forget the extra credit you’ll get for months or years to come when that baby arrives wrapped in or wearing the gift that YOU MADE!

But seriously don’t get too freaked out, thinking “I can’t knit like Grandma” or I’m not crafty like Aunty Sue”, because I have the EASIEST baby gift you can make, but the best thing is it looks gorgeous too!

STEP 1: Find some pretty flannelet material at a fabric shop.

STEP 2: Choose different fabrics so you can make it look different on each side. Mix and match and have some fun. Maybe pink stripes on one side and yellow butterflies on the other. Perhaps go unisex if you’re not sure if the baby is a boy or girl.

STEP 3: Purchase 1.2 metres of each fabric.

STEP 4: Go home and get set up at a flat table. Pin the fabric together on all sides with the patterns facing each other.

STEP 5: Try and sew a STRAIGHT lines on each side, but remember to leave a gap of about 10 cm on one side.

STEP 6: Turn the fabric inside out.

STEP 7: Tuck the fabric in around the hole so it looks like the rest of the blankie.

STEP 8: Sew 2 lines around the edge of the blanket. One line is so the gap is sewn up and the other is just to make the border of the blanket to look pretty.

You can also do one fancy stitch instead of two straight ones. But make sure you have a bit of a practice on some scrap fabric first.

STEP 9: You’re done with the sewing! YAY! Now fold the blanket nicely and add a pretty bow.

STEP 10: Give your present with pride and watch the response when the “Mum To Be” realises you put so much effort into making her gorgeous little baby a special hand made present.

Proposition 13 was passed in 1978 by the Howard Jarvis Administration to limit propety taxes in the state of California. Proposition 13 extremely controlled the capacity of government to use property taxes to build public improvements and services. Consequently, Californians had to find new ways to finance government community facilities in their communities like streets, schools, parks, etc. The Mello-Roos Community Facilities Act of 1982 was implemented by the State legislature, the Act enabled Community Facilities Districts (CFD’s) to be established as a way of obtaining this critical community financing.

Each Community Financial District has is different Mellow-Roos Property Tax. Normally|Generally|Typically, an adopted formula that relates to the residence size or lot size is utilized to establish the quantity of particular assessment. So a smaller home in a community will pay less than a larger residence in the same neighborhood. So, the county and city municipalities need to find funds to build the roads, sewage systems, schools, recreation centers, parks and so much more. You may have wondered how a telemarketer in a call center may end up dialing your number. They don’t just sit there with a long list of phone numbers and a telephone calling one by one. They in fact use what is called a Predictive Dialer. A Predictive Dialer is a computer system that automatically dials numbers that have been uploaded in its memory. These calls are then connected to sales agents that can speak to you live.

A Predictive Dialer also takes note of phone calls that are unanswered, busy, belong to a fax or answer machine or disconnected and discards them. It will only keep those phone calls that connect to an actual person making it more time effective for the agent taking the call. By using a Predictive Dialer, agents are able to twice as many phone calls. If a person was to sit down with a list of 1000 phone numbers and dial each one by hand, they would be able to speak with an actual person only about 25-35% of the time. So you see by the Predictive Dialer taking out numbers that won’t be answered by a person, the agent has more time with their customers and has a better chance of completing their goal.

The Predictive Dialer uses sequence of steps to figure out how many calls need to made to connect to the correct number of agents. However, the computer doesn’t actually know how many calls will successfully connect to a person until it has done so. In some cases the dialer will get more people on the phone than there are agents available. In this situation, the dialer will then hang up and leave what is known as a silent call.

Some more advanced systems will actually learn the answering trends of the calls that have occurred in the past. For instance, it will note if there is a particular time of day that elicits more successful phone calls and make adjustments in its calling pattern to compensate for those trends. If it knows that between 5pm – 8pm, 50% of the calls made will be answered, it will dial less numbers to ensure that there are enough agents available to answer the calls. Just like if less people answered between 12pm – 3pm, then it will dial more numbers so that the agents working will have phone calls to keep them busy.

As you can see, Predictive Dialers are very sophisticated and are an important tool in inside sales calls.

I was recently reading a book titled, “Talent is Overrated: What Really Separates World-Class Performers from Everybody Else.” In it, I learned a few lessons for copywriters.

What I got out of the book was that it’s not “natural” talent or even experience that give us greatness. And if you think it’s hard work, you’d be in good company, but that’s not it either. There are plenty of people who work hard but aren’t the best.

The author says the big difference is something he calls “deliberate practice.” It’s more than regular practice. A good way to explain that is in considering how most adult city league soccer teams practice. A few practice deliberately and most either just practice or do nothing.

Most soccer teams don’t have a coach. If they actually practice as a team they simply divide up into 2 groups, set up two small goals and then play until people get tired. Do we get better doing that? Not really. Is it fun? Usually so. That’s why we keep doing it.

A friend and I were able to convince the team we played with at the time that we needed to do some skill specific drills. We practiced playing “keep away” where the goal is for your team to maintain possession of the ball. Sometimes we put goals in the middle of the area to dribble through for points. Other times, we put a limit on the number of times we could touch the ball before passing. And we occasionally played offense against defense playing in our game formations.

Challenging ourselves with these drills made us better than other teams. We ended up moving up divisions each year that I played with them. I’ve seen other teams do that as well. It’s really not rocket science to be better than most everyone else. Deliberate practice will do the trick.

How about copywriters? You’ve probably heard you ought to copy other good letters so you absorb the language. There were 3 models for deliberate practicing researched: the music model, the chess model and the sports model.

Music Model

In music, you know exactly what the final outcome is supposed to be. You rehearse that over and over. If you get stuck on a part, you break it down and rehearse that until it’s perfect. In copywriting, that’s what we’re doing when we copy other good letters. We can do that with any element like headlines or offers too.

Chess Model

This is the “what would you do in this situation” model. This is also how Harvard Business School teaches… through case studies. You look at specific scenarios and try to figure out what you would do. Then you compare that to what happened in real life.

For a copywriter, we can re-write letters. How would you have handled a particular selling approach differently? You can pick a product, write a letter for it and then see how it compares to the real one. You can critique letters if you don’t want to actually write an entirely new one.

If you’d like a quicker exercise, break it down to smaller elements. How would you rewrite just a headline or some bullets? There are plenty of smaller opportunities if you want to test yourself against PPC ads or catalog copy. Pick out something you own, write about it then compare that to how they describe it online somewhere.

Sports Model

Sports teams condition themselves for specific skills. For copywriting, you can build your swipe file and analyze each letter. You can take courses. You can read books. You can cross train in fields like sales, story telling, NLP and hypnosis, logic and debate. You can getting mentoring.

No doubt you have already noticed that radio controlled helicopters differ in their construction and aerodynamics to rc planes and jets.
